The blurb from the publisher…

What happens when the world’s fiercest fashion editor learns she’s pregnant—and her distracting assistant is the only one she can turn to? This wildly popular age-gap lesbian romance mixes humor and chaos with self-discovery.

Jules Moretti is newly single, an aspiring writer, and the hyper-competent assistant to the most powerful woman in fashion. It’s a tough job, but her ice queen boss won’t settle for less than perfection.

Vivian Carlisle helms the internationally revered fashion publication Du Jour. She might be smack in the middle of a messy divorce, but you have to make sacrifices to be the best. That’s what she tells herself, anyway.
When the unthinkable happens, Vivian’s regimented world is turned upside-down. Her life is about power, success, and dominance—not a baby!

This single, shocking moment throws boss and assistant together into an intimacy neither could have imagined. With their lives in chaos, every day brings a new challenge bigger than the last. But everything will work out…just so long as they don’t do anything totally ridiculous.

Like fall in love.

Truth and Measure is the first part of a two-book series. This slow-burn office romance is a steamy story of fashion, passion, and the power of the unexpected.

My thoughts…

For all of those that have loved and shipped Miranda Priestly and Andrea Sachs, aka “Mirandy,” from The Devil Wears PradaTruth and Measure is definitely one that will have great appeal! These two lovely ladies have inspired quite a few fandom stories over the years, but very few compare when put next to Sinclair’s. She puts a spin on their dynamic and creates a version of “Mirandy” that’s all her own. The story world may look familiar, but the heat, chemistry and storyline are definitely unique and completely other-level.

Very few can write ice queen romances as well as Sinclair. She makes her queens jump off the page. Vivian is an intelligent, uncompromising, and powerful woman, a real force to be reckoned with. However, the right woman can always bring Sinclair’s icy beauties to their knees, and Jules is that person for Vivian. Sinclair strikes the right balance between these two and it makes the romance shine.

What really makes Truth and Measure exceptional though is the character work. Sinclair’s is fantastically well-done; Vivian and Jules are a real standout. Readers understand them. Furthermore, they connect with them. Their vulnerabilities, fears and desires are exposed through vivid scenes and purposeful dialogue. Readers see what drives these women and what holds them back. Because of this, readers find them relatable. They are empathetic to their flaws and misguided beliefs, especially Vivian’s.

Vivian is a grade-A, to the power of ten, ice queen, so it’s important for readers to see her fragility, despair and loneliness. Without it, readers wouldn’t feel anything for her, and that’s certainly not the case here. Vivian gets under the reader’s skin. Sinclair achieves this by poking at emotions. Readers are stirred by Vivian’s conflicting desires and fears. Readers love her, but they really love her with Jules.

The story arc is perfectly paced and plotted. There are some wonderful twists and turns that keep readers engaged throughout. The romance is more of a slow burn, but once it gets going, oh boy! Things definitely get steamy. However, Sinclair does a nice job with these scenes and makes them relevant to the story. She balances the tension nicely, keeping it real and believable. Additionally, Sinclair works the sex into the storytelling organically, making it all flow nicely.

Final thoughts…

Truth and Measure is written with style and grace and completely entertaining to read. I can’t wait to see where Sinclair takes Vivian and Jules in Above all Things, the next installment of this series.
